EXPLORE MINNICK HILLS

Taste through a 5-vintage vertical flight of Anvil by Forgeron Proprietary Blend from Minnick Hills Vineyard.

Small bites included*: Beechers cheddar & Cypress Grove Purple Haze.

Walla Walla is Washington State’s premiere wine town, featuring numerous world-class wineries, celebrated vineyards, as well as both quaint and cool tasting rooms. One of the vineyards that has been attracting some big league traction as a go-to site is Minnick Hills Vineyard. Family-owned for over 100 years and managed by Laura Minnick herself, the vineyard is comprised of sustainably farmed loess-covered Southwest-facing slopes ranging in elevations of 1,050–1,200 feet. One underrated advantage is the well-drained soils with uninhibited light exposure in a unique sub-climate that is less used due to difficult-to-obtain water rights.    The varietals grown at Minnick Hills include all five primary Bordeaux varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, which Forgeron Cellars purchases each year. We take advantage of this rare Washington State single vineyard opportunity to produce an Anvil by Forgeron Bordeaux blend that is soft but lush, complex yet immensely drinkable, and simultaneously representative of both Bordeaux and Walla Walla Valley. Even in vintages that lend more Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec to the overall final mix, the sensuous, supple nature of the wine feels more Right Bank Bordeaux in nature and mouthfeel. Expect to hear more from the Minnick Hills Vineyard in the coming years.   - PK
